One day during my freshman year, I was waiting at my piano instructor’s house for my younger brother who was finishing up his lesson when I encountered a woman who was also waiting for my brother to finish up because her son was next. I soon learned that she worked with my father, so I asked her if she attends the Vietnamese mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
“No, I don’t,” she replied. She explained that she goes to a different church because she is Lutheran, not Catholic.
I wasn’t aware of the many differences between these two kinds of Christianity, so I asked, “How are our beliefs different? Do Lutherans believe in Mary?”
“We believe in Mary, but we just don’t worship her like you Catholics do.” she answered.
